Wedding Colour Trends

I was privileged to photograph some wonderful weddings last year with an array of colours from neutral creams to vibrant orange.

The colour around us affects how we feel and how we look and I started to think about how brides decide upon their colour for one of the most important days of their life.
Does it start with your favourite colour, a colour that means something to you,  or a colour that you know your bridesmaids will look good in?
Is your favourite flower for your wedding bouquet the first consideration or the decor at the venue? It may be the time of year, autumnal shades or Christmas glitter.
Here are just a few of the colours my couples chose in recent months.

Wedding Day Colour
Clare & John and Karen & Andrew both chose cream and sapphire blue for their wedding day.

The radiant Natalie with her beautiful bridesmaids in blue.

The Delphiniums were the grand starting point for dramatic displays at Eynsham Hall.

Emma & Tim wanted their colours to blend with the décor at their venue, Down Hall.  The red and gold looked amazing. The tables were named after different types of tea with a hint of Alice in Wonderland.

Tom & Gary wanted the wedding breakfast room at Ponsbourne Park to look stylish and elegant.  The result was simply stunning in cream and grey.

Purple is always a popular colour, especially of the chocolate variety!   This vibrant yet elegant colour made Saima and Paul's wedding cake the perfect centrepiece at Fanhams Hall.

Kealey and Jonathan's day at Shendish Manor was a blend of purples, pinks, cream.

Pinks and creams are forever popular and looked very pretty in these bridesmaid's bouquets at Natalie and Barry's wedding at Three Lakes, West Mill Farm, Ware.

This amazing shade of orange brought a richness and warmth to Rob and Lauren's September wedding at the Priory Barn Little Wymondley.

Even the boys liked the flowers!

Claire &  Sean wanted their day to be full of colour. It was perfect and reflected their joyful, fun loving personalities.

From Bottle to Sage, greens were a popular choice all year.

Sage green and pink. Always a good combination.

Lisa's bouquet was a combination of fabric and knitted flowers.

Simple decorated jars with ribbons an buttons were a lovely touch.

Katharine and Stephen's October wedding at Offley Place was made even more beautiful by the stunning colour scheme.

And finally red and blue.  The perfect combination for Gemma and Richard's Christmas Wedding at Latimer Place that also happened to be Richard's regimental colours.

Do I have a favourite colour scheme to photograph?  Yes I do..... But I'm not going to tell you what it is!!!! Every couple is different and their colour is perfect for them.

Winter Weddings

Fairy lights, fireworks, candles, a sprinkling of frosting, Christmas in the air.
When could be a more perfect time for a wedding?
Here are some ideas to tempt you to celebrate your marriage during November and December.

Choosing a colour scheme.

Ice cool blue and silver.

Rich purples

 Deep reds

Already stunning locations may be adding some extra sparkle for the Christmas season. Find out which colours the venue will be using to decorate and incorporate this into your theme.

These Hertfordshire venues make glorious backdrops for your special day.
Hunton Park,  Fanhams Hall,  Dyrham Park,  Priory Barn and Hatfield House.

Or what about January or February?

Everyone may be feeling a bit flat after the holiday season and New Year, the spring is still weeks away, not much to do. Cheer up your fiends and family with a wedding day.

Hunton Park again in February.

You can't really rely on the British weather these days. In fact one of my wettest and coldest weddings last year was in June!  You know it is going to be cold during the winter months, so you won't be upset or disappointed and you may even be pleasantly surprised if the sun does decide to shine.  Look for interiors with that magical feel. Open fires, twinkling lights, mulled wine being served in the Library. Warm , cosy, welcoming , magical.

A good photographer will always have the right equipment to cope with failing light and all weather conditions. I usually like to  to suggest to my couples that they have a few moments to themselves taking a stroll around the grounds at the venue and I remain some distance away capturing these natural moments. We have visited the venue beforehand and talked about the best places to go and had a little practice run so that these photos are as natural as possible.
If it is raining hard and a walk around the grounds is impossible, we will have discussed places where my couple can be dry such as under a porch or in a doorway or as in the picture below, on this beautiful seat (Hunton Park.) The photograph could still be taken in wonderful natural light. I of course was standing in the pouring rain getting drenched but it doesn't matter if I get wet.  I usually just have time to put a raincoat on my camera!

If photographs really can't be taken outside, your photographer should have discussed a backup plan with you for taking photos inside.

I hope you have a wonderful winter wedding.
