and a silver sixpence in her shoe.

Some inspiration for your 'something blue' from a few of my beautiful brides this year.

The poem was first seen in late Victorian times (I think) and represents good-luck tokens for the bride. If she carries all of them on her wedding day, her marriage will be happy. "Something old" symbolises continuity with the bride's family and the past. "Something new" signifies optimism and hope for the bride's new life ahead. "Something borrowed" is usually an item from a happily married friend or family member, hopefully bringing their good fortune to the new bride.
Blue has been connected to weddings for centuries. In ancient Rome brides wore blue to symbolise love, modesty, and fidelity. Christianity has long dressed the Virgin Mary in blue, so purity was associated with the colour. Before the 19th century the wedding gown was often blue. A silver sixpence in the bride's shoe represents wealth and financial security. 
 
A few of my brides wore blue jewellery, a blue garter, had blue flowers in their bouquet or a blue ribbon tied around their bouquet.
You could also think about blue embroidery on your wedding gown, blue hair accessories, a blue hankerchief (or intials embroidered in blue) or how about blue nail polish.

Visit to New Covent Garden Flower Market

Visited the wonderful New Covent Garden Flower Market yesterday with a group of business women from the Athena Network.
Our host was Liz from Blue Sky Flowers. (a fabulous florist) http://www.blueskyflowers.co.uk/.
It was an early start, left home at 6.15am , (yes am) but it was well worth it.
Following a very welcome cup of tea, Danish pastry and tour of the site we were left to explore!  I recommend this to any brides to be, if they are still looking for inspiration for their colour scheme. Just talk to your florist or contact the market direct. http://www.newcoventgardenmarket.com/market

The Market is full of Christmas decorations at the moment and we had the opportunity to make a table decoration or wreath with Liz's guidance. I also made a twiggy thing!

It's not just flowers, there are vases, candle holders and candelabra as well.

Plus everything you need for Christmas. Just remember, you have to buy everything in bulk!

Seeking lunch we headed just around the corner to Lasscos, Brunswick House, 30 Wandsworth Road, London, SW8 2LG. http://www.lassco.co.uk/home/ It's an architectural salvage place, but has an intrigueing  cafe full of items to buy, including the chairs we were sitting on! . Plus the food was good and very reasonable. Perfect.

The only way to cut a cake.

No-one knew quite what to make of this one until confetti exploded from the top and the mountain was removed to reveal the cake below made by the Bride's father as a surprise.

Well that's just some cakes from this year.  I will be revealing my favourite cake from the last four years in the New Year after I have photographed all my lovely December weddings.
